Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we field most often from compliance officers evaluating Comply, answered here so you don't have to ask them twice.
How long does a demo take, and what happens in it?
Thirty to forty-five minutes, scheduled whenever suits you, and you don't need to prepare anything. One of our compliance specialists works through Comply against a sample loan file: importing the data, running FFIEC edit checks, geocoding the addresses, calculating rate spread and generating the submission file. Interrupt whenever you like. The part most people find useful is describing how their institution files today and seeing what that same step looks like in Comply.
We file HMDA out of spreadsheets. How long does it take to get running on Comply?
Most institutions are up and running in a day. We do the implementation with you rather than handing over an installer. That means setting up your import definitions so Comply reads the export from your origination system, converting your historical data, and staying with you through a first edit check on real records. The Import Wizard maps fields from Fiserv, FIS, Jack Henry, Finastra and custom platforms, and it reads fixed-length files, delimited files (CSV, tab, pipe) and direct database connections. The spreadsheet stage usually ends at that first import.
What does support look like after we go live?
Call during business hours and you reach a person, not a menu system. Most questions are answered on that first call, because whoever picks up knows the software and the regulation behind the question. You can also email support[at]rataassociates[dot]com or start a live chat from this page. RATA Support additionally hosts a video training library, and we run scheduled live training on HMDA, CRA, fair lending and regression analysis.
Which regulators and frameworks is Comply validated against?
Comply is built around the FFIEC's own rules. Every FFIEC Validity and Quality edit check is included and can be run on demand. Submission files are written in the exact CFPB format. Rate spread is calculated against FFIEC rate tables that refresh weekly, and geocoding tracks Census Bureau TIGER boundaries. Coverage runs across Regulation C (HMDA), Regulation BB (CRA) and Section 1071 small business lending. Comply Fair Lending follows the FFIEC and CFPB Fair Lending Examination Procedures, the same analytical framework examiners use.
Is Comply hosted, or installed on our own servers?
Either one. Comply is a Windows application built on Microsoft .NET and SQL Server, and plenty of institutions run it on their own hardware. If you would rather keep IT out of it, RATA Hosted Services runs the same software on a cloud platform that complies with Azure's FedRAMP certification guidelines. RHS installs and configures Comply, monitors software and database performance, applies every update and patch, and troubleshoots the environment as well as the application itself. Because it is delivered as a virtual platform, you can reach it from Windows, Linux, Mac, iOS, Android, Chromebooks and a web browser.
Who should we contact about HMDA, CRA or Section 1071 specifically?
The same people handle all three. HMDA, CRA and SBL 1071 are components of one Comply Suite sharing a single database, so there is no separate queue per regulation. Write to sales[at]rataassociates[dot]com for pricing, a demo, or adding a component to a license you already hold. For anything on an installed system, including edit check questions in the middle of filing season, use support[at]rataassociates[dot]com or call (407) 831-7282. Fair lending, mapping and geocoding follow the same split.
