RATA Releases Preliminary 2022 HMDA Peer Data

The CFPB has gotten into a pattern of releasing two versions of HMDA peer data. To get the data out quickly, they assemble the submissions and make preliminary public data available around mid March of each year. The release of the final data with full transmittal information usually comes a few months later.

As with previous years, we have decided to release a non-official version of the HMDA peer data so that all of you can start doing Peer Analysis on the current data. This release uses the Modified LAR Data from the CFPB, which we have combined and reformatted. This data gives the ability to perform analysis on a preliminary basis until the official national dataset is released later this year (typically in June). We have tested to make sure the numbers look reasonable and believe them to be correct for now, but there are normally resubmissions and changes to the "official" data upon release.

Keep in mind this is not "finalized" peer data, and there may be changes in the official release later this year.

This data can be downloaded from the RATA Support Site under Comply Downloads > Peer Data and loaded into your Comply system using the Import System Data button on the Home ribbon.

Note to RHS Users:

There is no action that needs to be taken on your RHS system. The preliminary peer data will be available for RHS users when you log in Monday, March 27th.

Important:

There was a decrease in the HMDA volume of around 10 million applications this year resulting in a total of 16 million applications. On our servers it took about an hour to load this data. Based on the fact that it is not "official" and it is very large, you may want to wait until the official data is released in June to do your analysis. In the end it is up to you and your institution how important it is to do preliminary peer analysis.

What happens next

  • 40 minutes, screen-shared. A live walkthrough on RATA sample data, driven by your questions rather than a script.
  • A specialist, not a relay. The person on the call knows both the software and the regulations behind it.
  • Mid-cycle is normal. Implementation and historical conversion are handled for you, typically inside a day.
